The Groundbreaking Ceremony of STFA’s Monumental Project “Small Boat Harbours” Took Place with the Participation of The President of Republic of Turkey Mr. Abdullah Gul and Kuwait Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Omair

 

Foundation stone for STFA’s first project “Small Boat Harbours” in Kuwait had been laid with the participation of The President of Republic of Turkey Mr. Abdullah Gül and Kuwait Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Omair on April 2nd, Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by government officials from Kuwait, corporate representatives of the involved enterprises, Turkish and Gulf region press and guests.

 

STFA, the Pioneer Turkish contracting company in the international arena, representing the knowledge and expertise of Turkish engineering and reflecting a 36 years of engagement and experience in the region was proud to announce the Small Boat Harbours Project, valued at 490 million USD, which will be completed within 38 months.

Under the patronage of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), “Small Boat Harbours” project consists of capacity extension of the Al Ahmedi Harbour and a new construction of a service harbour at Abu Halifa. The project is aimed to be completed within 38 months.

 

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is a subsidiary of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), a government owned holding company. KOC’s responsibilities involve the exploration, drilling and production of oil and gas within the State of Kuwait. The Company is also involved in the storage of crude oil and delivery to tankers for export. STFA, also cooperates with the local companies Canar and Imco for the infrastructure, construction of the buildings and electromechanical aspects of the project.

 

The project is split between two main locations, being the North and South projects, 7 km. apart from each other. The scope of the project consists of dredging of harbor basin, construction of piers, quay walls, pontoons, ship lift systems containing marine works, superstructure buildings and landscaping, electrical and mechanic works and ICT (Marine and Building Management Systems and Telecommunication Systems).

 

Long breakwater, in total 4km, will be constructed to protect the harbors by using quarried rock material of 2.5 million tons and 26,000 special protective concrete units called Accropode II.

 

The Quay wall, 2.5 km. length in total will be constructed by using 12,000 concrete block units in the sea and the quay walls will accommodate all the needs of future marine fleet of KOC. In order to serve the bigger marine assets of KOC, both harbors will be dredged down -7 meters CD, and the landfill attained during this dredging will be used as for the filling materials in the North and South harbours. There will also be a state of the art maintenance shipyard inclusive of a ship lift, in a capacity to serve 3 vessels at the same time.

Turkcell has recently launched its education platform, Turkcell Academy. As a result of the cooperation between Turkcell Academy and Scientific and Technical Publications Translation Foundation, an STFA foundation, Khan Academy became the major content provider and the lessons in Turkish are now being streamed on Turkcell Academy. Aiming to provide a free world-class education to anyone, anywhere, Khan Academy Turkish lessons are now expected to reach many more users with Turkcell’s support.

 

Khan Academy’s content is completely free of charge and available to anyone.

 

With over two thousand educational videos translated into Turkish so far, Khan Academy provides  a personalized education experience at one’s own learning pace. We signed a contract for the “Musannah Fishing Port” project of Oman Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries on December 5, 2013.The contract was signed on behalf of the Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries by the minister, H.E. Dr. Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, and on behalf of STFA by the member of our Board of Directors, Mr. Nur Taşkent.

 

The project is in the town of Musannah, 160 kilometers from Muscat. The project includes the construction of a wharf of 150 meters, and breakwaters of 1627 meters as well as dredging works of up to 5 meters in depth.

 

 

We received an invitation for Musannah Treatment Plant Project

We received an invitation from the Directorate General of Wastewater of Oman Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources for the “Musannah Sewer System and Treatment Facility” project. We’d placed a bid for the project on February 18, 2013. The employer informed us with a letter on December 15, 2013 that we won the tender and invited us to sign the contract.

 

Included in the project are HDPE and UPVC sewer pipelines of 65 km in length and 200 to 500 mm in diameter and construction of one pumping plant and water supply station, as well as design and construction of one wastewater treatment plant (oxidation-type treatment plant).

One Of The Caissons Have Been Floated

In İzmit Bay Crossing Project, One of the Caissons Have Been Floated

An important phase of the Izmit Bay Crossing Project has been successfully completed. In a ceremony attended by the Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım, the Director General of Highways, and senior managements of the project’s main contractors NOMAYG, IHI and STFA, one of the caissons upon which the abutments will be constructed has been floated (27.09.2013).

 

One of the caissons have been floated to the Temporary Supply Dock on the coast of Kaytazdere, 11 km from the drydock on Yalova’s Hersek Cape. The other caisson is expected to be floated in the upcoming days.

 

The caisson floating ceremony received great interest from the Highways senior officers to authorities from surrounding counties, from the main contractor’s senior executives to the press and the local population. An important milestone for the project was thus completed with great enthusiasm and success. In the next phase, work will commence at the sea.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for “Erbil Drinking Water Improvement and Erbil & Duhok Network” Project in Iraq

The groundbreaking ceremony for the “Erbil Drinking Water Improvement and Erbil & Duhok Network” project, undertaken as an STFA-FERNAS-KALYON Joint Venture in Iraq, was held. The ceremony took place at the 50,000 m3 capacity water reservoir being built by the joint venture in Erbil, on September 19, 2013 and was attended by the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government Nechervan Barzani, the Turkish Consul General in Erbil Mehmet Akif İnam, Commercial Attaché Sayer Erbil, Senior Management from STFA, Fernas and Kalyon.

We Signed two Agreements with Pakistan as Part of Energy Investments in the Country

As a step towards realizing the energy and infrastructure investments which are a part of the new cooperation strategies between Turkey and Pakistan, two agreements were signed in a ceremony held on September 18, 2013, attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, the Minister of Economy Zafer Çağlayan, the Governor of Istanbul Hüseyin Avni Mutlu as well as Top Management of STFA.

In the bilateral discussions held during Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Turkey, STFA’s energy and infrastructure investment projects were evaluated. Bilateral meetings were held with the Pakistan Government.

New reciprocal investments in energy and infrastructure between Turkey and Pakistan are intended. Cooperations between the two countries were considered at the meetings held during Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Turkey.

One of the first results of these recently established collaborative relations between Turkey and Pakistan is the deals signed between STFA and Pakistani Government for the construction of a wind farm and power transmission lines. According to the deal signed for the wind farm, STFA will build a 50 MW wind plant in Pakistan. STFA will also undertake the construction of a power transmission line. After serving for 20 years as a contractor in Pakistan, these two deals will bring STFA back to the country, this time as an investor.

STFA Construction Group has become a sponsor for the “Oman Transport Infrastructure 2013,” that took place in Oman Muscat Grand Hyatt Hotel between September 8-10, 2013, discussing infrastructure projects in Oman.

Mandated by Omani Ministry of Transportation, the event was attended by senior officers from a number of ministries and municipalities, as well as by many international construction companies.

We’ve received an invitation from the Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries Wealth for the“Musannah Fishing Port Project”.

We’ve been informed by the employer with a letter on June 24, 2013 that we’d placed the most suitable bid and that we were invited to sign the contract.

The project is to take place in the city of Musannah, 160 kilometres from Muscat. It will include the building of a 150 metre-long dock and a 1627 metre-long breakwater, as well as sweeping works as low as 5 metres below the water surface.

New Contract in Turkey

We signed a Contract for the İzmit Refinery B Zone Jetty and Quay Construction in Turkey

A contract has been signed on June 20, 2013 at Tüpraş Izmit Refinery Administration for the “İzmit Refinery B Zone Jetty and Quay Construction” project on which we as STFA Construction had placed a bid. The signing ceremony was attended by the TÜPRAŞ and STFA senior managements.
